Tripface
Tripface was a hardcore punk band originating from Long Island, active between 1993 and 1997. Noteworthy for its contributions to the East Coast hardcore scene, the band’s members later became associated with acts like Glassjaw and In This Moment.
History
In 1992, Jeff Fabb (Drums), Brian Langan (Guitar), and Brian Green (Bass) initiated a punk/metal band in the rural eastern end of Long Island. Operating on the fringes of the Long Island and NYC scene, the band, initially nameless, organized shows within their small town. The lineup underwent changes, evolving into a side project named Offsides and occasionally performing as Tripface. It was Ross Milligan who eventually solidified the band as Tripface.
The first recorded lineup, featuring guitarist Austin Macdonald on bass, Scott on vocals, and Rory on guitar, released a split cassette with Grid. The band’s popularity grew, attracting attention to the East End hardcore scene. Jay May joined on guitar, marking the rebirth of Tripface. The band’s final lineup, including Dave Allen (bass) and Pete Ruland (drums), became the most productive, playing a blend of 1990s metalcore and NYHC.
Some Part Sorrow Lineup
The band recorded the Closed In demo and gained popularity on Long Island. Austin left the band, leading to the most productive phase of Tripface. They played notable venues and shared stages with influential bands. In 1994, Exit Records released the This Foundation EP, followed by the CD Some Part Sorrow in 1996. Tripface tracks appeared on various compilations, contributing to their recognition.
In 1997, internal differences led to Scott Jarzombek’s departure. The band continued briefly as Advent with Silent Majority’s Tommy Corrigan. Even after disbanding, Tripface received critical acclaim, with Some Part Sorrow being voted NYHC Album of the Year by In Effect Fanzine. The band’s discography, titled Some Part Hope, was released by Motherbox Records in 2009.
