Feeling B

Feeling B were a punk rock force in East Berlin in 1983

Feeling B were a punk rock force in East Berlin in 1983, firmly rooted in the underground punk scene. The band’s ascent to popularity reached its peak around the end of the German Democratic Republic.

Band Dynamics

Frontman Aljoscha Rompe (1947–2000), a Swiss resident of East Berlin, lent his vocals to the band’s songs. Throughout Feeling B’s history, Rompe, guitarist Paul Landers, and keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz remained the only consistent members. The band also featured bassist Christoph Zimmermann and drummers Alexander Kriening and Christoph “Doom” Schneider at various points. Landers, Lorenz, and Schneider later achieved fame with Rammstein.

Collaborations and Side Projects

Till Lindemann, future Rammstein singer and then-drummer for First Arsch, collaborated with Feeling B on the song “Lied von der unruhevollen Jugend,” an interpretation of a Russian communist song. Landers contributed guitar to First Arsch’s 1992 album Saddle Up. Lindemann and Landers, now part of Rammstein, performed the song live in St. Petersburg and Moscow in 2001 during the ‘Mutter’ tour.

Historic Night on November 9, 1989

On the historic night of November 9, 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell, Feeling B was performing in West Berlin as part of a government-endorsed gig. Flake, the keyboardist, learned about the wall’s collapse as the band played. Unable to return home due to the wall’s crowded holes, the band experienced the profound impact of this historical event.

Post-Wall Albums

Following the fall of the Wall, Feeling B released two albums: Wir kriegen Euch alle in 1991 and Die Maske des Roten Todes in 1993. Both albums surpassed their predecessor in terms of success, according to Flake.

Disbandment and Reunion

The band disbanded in the mid-1990s, with occasional reunions at punk festivals. Tragically, Rompe passed away in November 2000 from an asthma attack at the age of 53. Zimmermann died in a plane crash in 1999. In 2007, Lorenz rediscovered old recordings, leading to the release of Grün & Blau, featuring unreleased material and remixes of some known songs.
