Antidote
Antidote is a Dutch punk band formed in 1996. The band was inspired to start after a jam session at the squat De Blauwe Aanslag. Known for their politically motivated music, Antidote’s lyrics address topics such as squatting, anti-fascism, anti-homophobia, and even criticism of the punk scene itself. Over their career, they have released five full-length studio albums and toured extensively across Europe, North America, and Russia, often playing alongside prominent US punk bands such as The Casualties and The Virus.
The band’s sound has been categorized as punk, hardcore, or straight edge, blending aggressive riffs with a message of resistance and solidarity. Their songs resonate strongly with activist communities and underground punk fans, especially those involved in social movements.
In December 2012, Antidote announced their breakup, much to the disappointment of their fans. However, in 2017, the band reunited for a series of festival performances. Members Bart and Arne Smeels have remained active in music, with their involvement in the Utrecht-based band Bakfietsboys. Arne Smeels has also produced solo cassettes under the moniker Arne S.
