Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg is an English punk rock band based in Southport, formed in 1979. They made a distinct contribution to the UK hardcore punk scene and are known for their fiercely anti-Nazi stance, despite the controversial connotations of their name.
History
Blitzkrieg was formed in 1979 in Southport, England, by Mike ‘Riffone’ on vocals, his brother Phil ‘Din’ on drums, and other early members. The band quickly established themselves on the UK indie charts with releases like the “All Out Attack EP” and the debut album Voice of a Generation. They were championed by Sounds magazine writer Garry Bushell, which helped boost their early success.
After a series of lineup changes, including the addition of bassist Chris Hind and drummer Dave “Bambi” Ellesmere, Blitzkrieg released tracks that achieved chart success, such as “The Future Must Be Ours” and “Conscience Prayer”. Their politically charged lyrics and energetic performances solidified their reputation in the punk community.
Following several reforms and releases over the years, including new albums like Blind Faith (2019) and War Machine (2021), Blitzkrieg remains active, evolving its lineup while maintaining the raw punk spirit that defined its early years.
