Chixdiggit
Chixdiggit are a Canadian pop punk band from Calgary, Alberta, celebrated for their upbeat tracks about girls, relationships, and the lighter side of punk life.
History
In 1990, K.J. Jansen, Mark O’Flaherty, and Mike Eggermont began selling T-shirts emblazoned with the band’s logo at their high school, which eventually provided the funds for their first drum kit. By 1991, the trio had formed the band and started performing local shows in Calgary, gradually building a following. In 1996 they signed with Sub Pop Records and released their self-titled debut album. Shortly thereafter, the band toured worldwide and signed with Honest Don’s Records, which saw the release of Born on the First of July in 1998 and From Scene to Shining Scene in 2000.
After a brief hiatus, Chixdiggit returned in 2003 and began work on their fourth album, Pink Razors, which was released on Fat Wreck Chords in 2005. In October 2007, they re-recorded their debut album as Chixdiggit! II on Bad Taste Records. The band continued to evolve, and in 2011 they released a six-song EP, Safeways Here We Come, in North America.
Tragedy struck with the death of former drummer Dave Alcock on January 1, 2023, in Calgary. His passing was announced on the band’s official Facebook page, marking a somber moment in the band’s storied history.
