Destroy!
Destroy! was a crust punk band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, active from 1988 until 1994. Known for their aggressive sound that fused crust punk and grindcore, the band was part of a wave of politically charged punk groups in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their short but impactful run left behind a handful of recordings that continue to circulate among underground punk fans. Vocalist Felix Havoc also went on to establish Havoc Records, which became an important label in the hardcore and crust punk scenes.
History
The band formed in Minneapolis in 1988 and quickly immersed themselves in the crust punk underground. Their music was raw, fast, and abrasive, often accompanied by lyrics that attacked racism, social injustice, and systemic oppression. In 1992, frontman Felix Havoc founded Havoc Records initially to release Destroy!’s Burn This Racist System Down 7-inch EP. The label quickly expanded and became a hub for hardcore punk and crust punk bands well into the 1990s and beyond.
Destroy! existed during a time when politically minded punk was seeing new growth, and their records captured the intensity of that movement. Despite their relatively short lifespan, the group played an active role in shaping the Minneapolis punk landscape and connecting with similar scenes worldwide.
