Ignite is a band from Orange County formed in 1993

Ignite is a band from Orange County, California that formed in 1993 and built its reputation the hard way, through constant touring, long sets, and a steady focus on songs with something to say. Before reaching wider attention with A Place Called Home in 2000, the band had already spent years playing shows across the United States and abroad, earning loyalty from hardcore audiences well before industry recognition followed.

How The Band Got Started

The roots of Ignite go back to 1992, when Brett Rasmussen and Joe D. Foster began playing music together. The lineup solidified in 1993 with the addition of Joe Nelson and Gavin Oglesby, followed by drummer Casey Jones. Early on, the band cycled through several names, including Fuse, Angerslave, and Shade, before settling on Ignite.

The group recorded a demo featuring tracks such as “Ash Return” and “Distance,” which helped open doors for touring opportunities. Lost & Found Records offered to release material in Europe, leading to the band touring alongside Slapshot in 1994. Around this time, Foster stepped into vocal duties for the recording of Scarred for Life, though the band still lacked a permanent singer.

Finding A Voice And Building Momentum

After months of searching, Ignite found vocalist Zoltán “Zoli” Téglás, whose arrival helped stabilize the lineup. In early 1995, the band recorded the In My Time EP. Complications with record labels soon followed, resulting in material being split across different releases in Europe and the United States.

The band continued forward by releasing Past Our Means through Revelation Records in 1996, followed by tours in Japan and across Europe. Their live performances gained attention, and they were named one of the strongest live acts of the year by Germany’s VISIONS magazine.

A Place Called Home And Wider Recognition

Lineup changes continued through the late 1990s, but Ignite pushed ahead and began recording A Place Called Home, released in 2000 on TVT Records. The album marked a turning point, helping the band reach a larger audience while maintaining the direct approach that had defined their earlier work.

The record led to appearances on major tours, including Persistence Tour in 2003. As touring intensified, guitarist roles shifted again, but the core of the band remained focused on writing material rooted in personal conviction and social awareness.

Later Releases And Continued Touring

In 2006, Ignite released Our Darkest Days through Abacus Recordings. The album was followed by extensive touring in Europe. After periods of reduced activity and lineup adjustments, the band returned with A War Against You in 2016. The album charted in several countries and marked the band’s strongest commercial showing to date.

Following additional tours, Téglás announced his departure in 2019. He completed previously scheduled dates before stepping away. Eli Santana later joined as vocalist, debuting on a 2021 EP and the band’s self-titled 2022 album. Ignite continued touring through Europe and the United States into 2024.
