Awkward Thought

Awkward Thought is a New York hardcore punk band formed in the 1990s. Renowned for their energetic shows and fierce commitment to 1980s-style hardcore, Awkward Thought first made waves by contributing to various compilation albums and releasing two demo tapes.
First Full-Length: Mayday (2000)
After building a following on the strength of early demos and compilation appearances, Awkward Thought released their debut full-length album, Mayday, in 2000 through Blackout Records in the US and I Scream Records in Europe. Featuring seventeen tracks, the album garnered praise from critics, with Exclaim! calling it “particularly outstanding” and “appealing” to fans of classic 1980s hardcore. During summer 2000, the band embarked on a coast-to-coast US tour in support of Mayday, bringing their intense sound to audiences nationwide.
Fear Not and European Tours (2001–2002)
In 2001, Awkward Thought followed up with a CD/EP titled Fear Not on Grapes of Wrath Records, a division of Coretex Records based in Berlin. That summer, they toured Europe for the first time. A year later, in summer 2002, Awkward Thought returned to the UK for a full tour, continuing to expand their reach and cultivate their growing international fanbase.
Ruin a Good Time (2002–2003)
Also in 2002, the band released their second full-length album, Ruin a Good Time, via I Scream Records in Europe. In the fall of that year, they toured Europe again, promoting the new material. Ruin a Good Time received a US release in 2003 by Thorp Records, though it featured different artwork and layouts from the European edition. These consistent performances and transatlantic releases cemented Awkward Thought’s status in the hardcore community.
