Blanks 77 stand tall as an American punk rock band that has weathered the storms of time since their inception in 1990. Originally from Hillside, New Jersey, they’ve etched their name in the annals of punk history, showcasing resilience, passion, and unyielding energy.

History

Formation and Early Years (1990–1996)

The roots of Blanks 77 trace back to the early ’90s when high school buddies Mike (vocals) and Chad (drums) embarked on a musical journey. Their path intersected with guitarist Renee, a connection made through a musician wanted ad. Dubbing themselves the Blanks, they soon encountered another band bearing the same name. To avert conflict, they adopted ’77 as a nod to punk’s birth year. Their inaugural bassist, Brendan, laid the groundwork, later succeeded by Geoff Kresge and then Tim from the Broken Heroes. In 1995, their debut album, Killer Blanks, emerged, marking the genesis of their sonic rebellion.

Further Releases and Lineup Changes (1997–2001)

The late ’90s ushered in a flurry of activity for Blanks 77. Their sophomore effort, Tanked and Pogoed, hit the streets in 1997, amplifying their presence in the punk scene. However, internal dynamics fluctuated, with Chad departing in late 1997, later replaced by Paul Russo and eventually Kid Lynch. Undeterred, they unleashed their third opus, C.B.H., in 1998, showcasing their unrelenting spirit. Despite their indomitable drive, internal fissures led to a hiatus in 2001, as Renee’s departure marked a temporary pause.

Reformation and Continued Impact (2004–Present)

In 2004, the punk stalwarts regrouped, rekindling the flame of Blanks 77 with the classic lineup of Mike, Renee, Tim, and Chad. While their touring endeavors scaled back, their influence remained palpable on the East Coast punk circuit. Their collaboration with Jailhouse Records bore fruit in 2015 with the release of Gettin’ Blasted, a split 12″ with fellow New Jersey comrades, the Parasitix. Through their unwavering dedication and infectious energy, Blanks 77 continues to leave an indelible mark on the punk landscape.
