History
Early Years
Bowling for Soup was formed on June 4, 1994, by Jaret Reddick, Chris Burney, Erik Chandler, and Lance Morrill. The band’s name was inspired by a Steve Martin comedy act. After Morrill left in 1998, drummer Gary Wiseman joined, solidifying the lineup. Early on, they relocated to Denton, Texas, released their first EP, and garnered attention that led to a signing with Jive Records.
Breakthrough and 2000s
Their major label debut, Let’s Do It for Johnny!! (2000), included re-recordings of earlier songs and marked the beginning of their national breakthrough. Their follow-up, Drunk Enough to Dance (2002), featured the Grammy-nominated single “Girl All The Bad Guys Want.” The band’s cover of “1985” on A Hangover You Don’t Deserve (2004) became a major hit, propelling them into the mainstream with widespread radio play.
Mid to Late 2000s
Following appearances in films like Crossroads and contributions to soundtracks, Bowling for Soup continued to release albums such as The Great Burrito Extortion Case (2006) and embarked on extensive touring, including The Get Happy Tour. Their music videos and singles like “High School Never Ends” solidified their presence on international stages and TV channels.
