Days N Daze

Days N' Daze is a Houston folk punk band formed in 2008

Days N’ Daze is a folk punk band from Houston, Texas that formed in 2008. Their self-described style, “H-Town Thrashgrass,” mixes acoustic instruments with punk grit, creating high-energy songs that balance humor, politics, and raw honesty. The group built a reputation for relentless touring, do-it-yourself recording, and lyrics that cover everything from anarchism and environmental collapse to anxiety, substance use, and chaotic parties. They have played everything from small house shows to festivals across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, opening for acts like M.D.C., Night Gaunts, and Black Flag’s Chuck Dukowski Sextet.

How The Band Got Started

Days N’ Daze began when longtime friends Whitney Flynn and Jesse Sendejas started playing together in Rosenberg, Texas. Both had backgrounds in music but little money for gear, so they worked with what they had: acoustic guitars, washboards, and makeshift instruments. Flynn, trained in piano and trumpet, eventually convinced Sendejas to let the trumpet become part of their sound, which became one of the band’s signatures. They recorded their first albums in a closet at Sendejas’ father’s house in Richmond, Texas, a space that continued to serve as their recording base. Early additions to the lineup included Jesse’s sibling Marissa on washboard and Freddie Boatright on washtub bass, chosen as much for affordability as for sound.

Key Releases and Career Growth

The group’s early output included We Never Said It Was Good (2008), Perfectly Dysfunctional (2009), and Here Goes Nothin’ (2010). Their profile grew steadily as they toured nonstop, often sleeping rough and playing anywhere they could set up. The lineup shifted over the years, with Geoff Bell joining on washtub bass in 2013 and Meagan Michelle taking over on washboard in 2014. Flynn managed the band directly for years, booking tours herself until they were signed to Crawlspace Booking.

Emotional turmoil fed directly into their music, especially the 2013 album Rogue Taxidermy, which became one of their best-known releases. Its track “Misanthropic Drunken Loner” earned millions of views online and cemented their reputation. They continued with Oogle Deathmachine (2013) and Crustfall (2017), the latter featuring a guest spot from Scott Sturgeon of Leftöver Crack. In 2020, they issued Show Me The Blueprints, their Fat Wreck Chords debut, followed by Ward Off the Vultures in 2022. In 2024 they released new singles like “Earthquake” and “Murphy’s Law.”

Side Projects

Band members have been prolific outside Days N’ Daze. Flynn has performed with My Pizza My World, released solo material under her own name and as Death By Skwerl, and toured internationally. Sendejas fronts Escape From the Zoo, releasing albums like KILLACOPTER (2017) and Countin’ Cards (2022). Together, Flynn and Sendejas also performed in Decathect, a more conventional punk project. Both have guested on numerous recordings by other punk artists, from Dirty Harry to The Rumperts, and continued collaborating into 2025 with features such as Flynn’s appearance on Rumbletramp’s “Time Dilations Pt.3” and Sendejas’ feature on Mad Conductor’s “All Dogs Live Forever.”
