Dead Swans is a hardcore punk band from Brighton, England, formed in 2006. They carved out a reputation for intense, melodic hardcore with sharp energy and heavy emotion. After releasing several records between 2008 and 2012, they split in 2013 before reuniting in 2016. Since then, they’ve played festivals and shows, keeping their name alive in the UK punk scene.

How The Band Got Started

The group launched in Brighton in 2006, bringing together Nicholas Worthington on vocals, Stewart “Pid” Payne on guitar, Benjamin Marco on bass, and Benny Mead on drums. Their style fused hardcore with melodic touches, and their early work quickly caught attention. By 2008 they had released the Southern Blue EP and a split with metalcore band Architects, moves that put them firmly on the map. That same year they were nominated for Best British Newcomer at the Kerrang! Awards.

Breakthrough and Releases

2009 was a defining year. They released the It’s Starting EP on Bridge 9 Records, followed by their full-length album Sleepwalkers. The record showcased their blend of aggression and melody and pushed their reputation beyond the UK. Their final release before a brief disbanding was the Anxiety and Everything Else EP in 2012, which included the standout track “Keep Them Shut.”

Reunion

In January 2016 Dead Swans teased a comeback with a video post, and soon after they confirmed their return by performing at Outbreak Festival. The reunion brought back their original core lineup, plus Joey Bayes on guitar, who had joined in 2009. Since then, they’ve remained active and continue to perform, maintaining their reputation as one of the UK’s fiercest modern hardcore acts.
