Figure Four

Winnipeg hardcore band The Figure Four blended metalcore and faith-driven energy before members formed Comeback Kid and later reunited for Rain Fest and Furnace Fest.

The Figure Four is a Canadian hardcore punk band formed in December 1997. Known for their blend of hardcore punk and metalcore, the band built a reputation on aggressive riffs, breakdowns, and faith-based intensity before going on hiatus.

How The Band Got Started

Figure Four formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba in late 1997. Their early material landed them on Facedown Records, part of the Christian hardcore circuit at the time. The group featured Andrew Neufeld on vocals, Jeremy Hiebert on guitar, ‘Metal’ Mel on second guitar, Jason Bailey on bass, and ‘Optimus’ Steve ‘Prime’ Dueck on drums. The band’s debut full-length, No Weapon Formed Against Us (1999), introduced their chug-heavy metallic hardcore sound.

Growth And Touring Years

Their second album, When It’s All Said and Done (2001), continued to refine the band’s approach with tighter songwriting and more layered guitar work. By the early 2000s, Figure Four were touring alongside other hardcore staples in the North American underground. Their third album, Suffering the Loss (2003), released on Solid State Records, showcased more polished production and cemented their place among the era’s heavy hitters.

Hiatus And Side Projects

After several years of touring, members began devoting time to other projects. Neufeld and Hiebert went on to form Comeback Kid, which became one of the most prominent Canadian hardcore bands. Jason Bailey later joined Grave Maker and also performed with Endless Fight, Shattered Realm, and Cancer Bats. The band stopped regular activity in 2006 but reunited sporadically for select shows.

Reunions And Later Activity

Figure Four made a surprise return at Rain Fest in Seattle on May 28, 2011. During the set, Neufeld addressed the crowd about the band’s evolution and shifting beliefs, emphasizing that while their perspectives had changed, their respect for the band’s legacy remained. They later reunited again for Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 24, 2022, drawing strong reactions from longtime fans.
