Half Price
Half Price is a punk rock band from Cape Town, South Africa, formed in 2001. Known for their energetic performances and a unique blend of punk rock, ska, and reggae, the band has released three full-length albums, two EPs, a compilation album, and a split album since their inception. In 2016, they became the first South African punk band to sign with an American digital label, Punk Outlaw Records.
History
The band was founded by Pete and The DFG in 2001 as a party-punk outfit focused on making music for fun rather than profit. Half Price embraces a DIY ethos, and their sound incorporates a mix of punk rock, ska, and reggae, characterized by sarcastic humor and a reputation for wild stage antics.
They have played numerous shows and festivals across South Africa, as well as completing four European tours between 2005 and 2013. Over the years, Half Price has shared the stage with notable acts such as The Exploited, Mad Caddies, The Spermbirds, Leftöver Crack, and Antimaniax. In 2017, they supported Alien Ant Farm during the band’s Cape Town leg of their South African tour.
Notable Releases
Half Price’s song “Soccer 2010,” from the album The Monotony of Monogamy, touched on the excitement surrounding the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. In 2016, they released Straight Outta South Africa, a compilation album under New York’s Punk Outlaw Records.
In 2018, Half Price teamed up with fellow Cape Town band Alive at Midnight to release a split album. Their inclusion in the world-renowned Punk Rock Holiday festival in Slovenia for 2024 was announced in December 2023, marking another major milestone for the band.
