The embryonic stages of The Jabbers emerged as early as 1977, revolving around GG Allin, his brother Merle Allin on bass, and a revolving door of local guitarists. By 1979, the lineup solidified with Alan Chapple on bass and Rob Basso on guitar. The addition of guitarist Chris Lamy in 1980 and drummer Michael O’Donnell in 1983 further defined the band’s sound and identity.
The GG Allin Era
The zenith of The Jabbers’ career coincided with GG Allin’s reign as frontman, culminating in the release of their only album together, Always Was, Is and Always Shall Be. This seminal work, characterized by its unapologetic aggression and controversial themes, foreshadowed the extremes that GG Allin would later embrace.
Post-Disbandment Revival
Following the dissolution of The Jabbers in May 1984, GG Allin embarked on new musical endeavors, notably leading The Scumfucs. However, in 2003, original members Chapple, Lamy, and O’Donnell breathed new life into the band, recruiting new members Wimpy Rutherford on vocals and Harlan Miller on lead guitar. This reincarnation resulted in the release of the album American Standard in 2005, marking a triumphant return to the punk rock scene.
