Sektor Gaza

Sektor Gaza, a Soviet and Russian punk rock band, emerged from Voronezh in 1987 under the guidance of Yuri Klinskikh, also known as Yuri “Khoy.” The band drew its name from an industrial area in Voronezh nicknamed Sektor Gaza due to severe environmental contamination, echoing the Russian name for the Gaza Strip. The group’s inaugural performance took place at a local rock club on June 9, 1988, with the official founding date noted as December 5, 1987, coinciding with Klinskikh’s solo performance of future Sektor Gaza repertoire at the Voronezh Rock Club.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Sektor Gaza recorded demo tapes like “Plugi-vugi” and “Kolkhozny pank” before moving on to studio albums. Notable works include “Zloveshchiye Mertvetsy,” “Yadryona Vosh,” “Noch pered Rozhdestvom,” and “Gulyay, muzhik!” The band’s eclectic style, marked by punk, rock, and folk influences, garnered attention, leading to TV appearances and nationwide fame.
