Shaila is a melodic hardcore/punk rock band from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Formed in 1994, they initially played for the sheer enjoyment of it and released their first EP titled Sólo Un Día Más (Just One More Day) in 1996.

Significance in South America

Shaila holds a prominent position in the South American punk rock scene. Over the years, they have shared stages with renowned bands such as Lagwagon, MxPx, The Ataris, and NOFX. Beyond Argentina, they have showcased their music in Chile, Uruguay, and Peru.

Early Performances and Influences

From their early shows at venues like Die Shule, Remember, Continuará, Teatro del Plata, Rock & Blues, among others, Shaila’s punk rock influences have been evident.

Solo Un Día Más (1996)

In late 1996, Shaila released their first self-produced work, Solo un día más. This cassette, featuring four songs, marked the beginning of their musical journey. During this period, the band actively participated in various compilations.

Progresar (2000)

In 2000, drummer Alejo left the band, making way for Guido. With this new lineup, they recorded their first LP titled Progresar, showcasing thirteen melodic hardcore tracks. This album marked a turning point for Shaila, characterized by a more refined sound and mature melodies.

El Engaño (2002)

In 2002, Shaila released El Engaño, their second LP, which garnered positive reviews from the press and achieved notable sales. They were invited to notable events like the “Festival AntiGlobalización” and participated in two editions of the “Rock Al Parque” Fest.

Mañanas (2004)

Recorded between February and March 2004, Mañanas was released by their record company, Speed Power Emotion. The album, featuring fourteen songs, was presented in a national tour that concluded at Cemento in July.

Los Caminantes and Camino A Idilia (2006)

Shaila began recording Los Caminantes, an EP for the LP Camino A Idilia in 2006. This album was showcased in July 2007 at El Teatro. The band organized a massive festival in September 2007 called “Festival Contra la Violencia y Discriminación,” bringing together 11 bands.
