Comeback Kid
Comeback Kid is a Canadian hardcore punk band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in March 2001. The current lineup consists of Andrew Neufeld on lead vocals, Jeremy Hiebert and Stu Ross on guitars, Chase Brenneman on bass, and Loren Legare on drums. Over the years, Comeback Kid has released seven studio albums, 17 music videos, and maintained a dedicated fanbase, with their latest album, *Heavy Steps*, being released in January 2022.
How The Band Got Started
Comeback Kid was formed in March 2001 by Andrew Neufeld and Jeremy Hiebert, both of whom were previously members of the band Figure Four. They were soon joined by Scott Wade and Kyle Profeta, with the intention of the project being a side endeavor. The band’s name, originally “The Comeback Kid,” was inspired by a headline in a newspaper about hockey player Mario Lemieux making his return to the NHL. The band released a six-song demo in January 2002, which quickly garnered attention, leading to their signing with Facedown Records in August 2002.
Their debut album, *Turn It Around*, was released in 2003, and Comeback Kid began touring relentlessly, playing across North America and Europe. The band made appearances at several prestigious hardcore punk festivals, including Hellfest and Posi Numbers Festival. After completing their tour for *Turn It Around*, Comeback Kid recorded their second album at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado.
In 2005, the band released *Wake the Dead* on Victory Records. Shortly after its release, vocalist Scott Wade left the band, and Andrew Neufeld took over as the lead vocalist while they worked on their third album, *Broadcasting*. The band continued to tour, including a tour with Rise Against in North America and a stint on the “Never Say Die” tour in Europe with Parkway Drive. However, in 2007, Comeback Kid went on a brief hiatus, and bassist Kevin Call parted ways with the band on good terms. He was replaced by Matt Keil, and Comeback Kid continued their international touring.
In 2008, Comeback Kid released a CD/DVD titled *Through The Noise*, which documented their first six years as a band. The DVD included footage from a live performance in Leipzig, Germany, while the CD featured a live recording of the show. Following this release, the band toured Canada with bands like Bane, Misery Signals, and Shai Hulud.
After two years of writing and touring, the band released their fourth studio album, *Symptoms and Cures*, in 2010. The album received critical acclaim and was followed by more tours across North America and Europe.
In early 2012, guitarist Casey Hjelmberg announced his departure, and Stu Ross of Misery Signals joined as his replacement. In September 2013, the band began recording their fifth studio album, *Die Knowing*, which was released in March 2014. Shortly after, drummer Kyle Profeta left the band to focus on his culinary career, and the band continued with their new lineup.
The band’s sixth studio album, *Outsider*, was released in 2017 under Nuclear Blast, and in 2022, Comeback Kid released their seventh studio album, *Heavy Steps*. This album continued to build on their established sound, blending aggressive hardcore punk with melodic elements.
In 2024, the band released a new EP titled *Trouble*, marking another chapter in their storied career.
