Leftöver Crack
Leftöver Crack is a New York City punk band formed in 1998 after the breakup of Choking Victim. Their music pulls from hardcore punk, ska, and crust punk, and their lyrics take direct aim at religion, capitalism, policing, and authority.
From the start, the band’s story has been tied to constant motion: shifting lineups, label conflicts, long pauses, and sudden returns. Even when releases stalled or tours got complicated, the project kept finding ways to keep moving forward.
From Choking Victim’s aftermath to a new name
Leftöver Crack began as an outlet for Scott “Stza” Sturgeon to record songs that were never captured by Choking Victim. For nearly two years, it was largely Stza building tracks on his own while trying to lock in a working lineup. Once the band solidified, the material that had been sitting in limbo became the foundation for the first official releases.
The first release and an early lineup that clicked
With a full band in place, Leftöver Crack recorded early staples like “Rock the 40 Oz.” and “Crack City Rockers.” Those sessions led to the band’s first release, the Rock the 40 Oz. 7-inch EP (released March 8, 2000). The early period established the band’s core approach: fast tempos, sharp hooks, and political writing that refuses to soften the edges.
Hellcat signing, and the album that became a fight
After landing on Hellcat Records, the band began work on a first full-length that originally had a more provocative title, artwork, and track plan. Hellcat refused to release it as originally intended, and the record was reshaped and retitled. The resulting album, Mediocre Generica, arrived on September 11, 2001, and doubled as a pointed jab at the situation that forced the changes.
Working around the stall, then regrouping with Alternative Tentacles
Legal disputes with Hellcat left the band stuck for a period, unable to fully move on yet unable to release new work normally under the Leftöver Crack name. During that stretch, they bent the rules through alternate billing and side-path releases. After the contract issues cleared, they connected with Jello Biafra and signed to Alternative Tentacles, opening the door for the next full-scale album cycle.
Fuck World Trade, then the long stop-and-start years
Fuck World Trade was released on August 30, 2004. The record leaned into bigger swings in structure and instrumentation, while staying rooted in the band’s aggressive core. Not long after, the band hit an extended slowdown after the death of drummer Brandon “Possible” Chevalier-Kolling at the end of 2004.
After that, activity came in waves: stretches of touring, periods of reduced output, and frequent lineup changes as members cycled in and out or focused on other projects.
The 2010s return, and a third full-length
In 2015, Leftöver Crack released their third album, Constructs of the State. It arrived after a long gap and reflected the band’s wide network of collaborators and connections across punk scenes. The years that followed included more touring, more lineup turnover, and continued shifts in how the band operated day to day.
Recent releases and the latest lineup changes
In 2024, the band released “Shootacide” and announced a new album titled Abandon The Precincts. In 2025, they released “White Guilt Atrocity Quilt” and “Brad Sabbath,” with new vocalist Tibbie X appearing on the tracks. The same period included news about reissues and label moves, while the live lineup continued to evolve.
