Mob 47

Mob 47 are a Stockholm hardcore punk band formed in 1982

Mob 47 are a Stockholm hardcore punk band that formed in 1982, first using the name Censur before switching to Mob 47 the following year. The lineup and roles shifted early on, and the band became closely tied to Sweden’s fast, raw D-beat corner of hardcore, playing shows alongside peers like Anti Cimex and drawing on bands such as Discharge, Crucifix, D.R.I., and B.G.K.

How It Started

The band began in Stockholm in 1982. In the earliest phase they operated as Censur, then renamed the project to Mob 47 in 1983 as the group’s personnel changed and a new vocalist entered the picture. Those early years put them in the thick of Sweden’s hardcore underground, where bands were moving faster, hitting harder, and keeping everything stripped down.

Early Era and The Stockholm Connection

Mob 47 became associated with the extreme end of Swedish D-beat, often described as one of the quickest groups in that lane. They shared bills in their formative period with bands in the same orbit, including Anti Cimex. The sound they leaned into sat in that urgent, noisy space where hardcore and D-beat overlap, built for short songs and maximum impact.

Side Bands and Related Projects

Guitarist Åke Henriksson was active in multiple projects around the Mob 47 timeline, including Agoni, Röjers, Discard, Crudity, and Protes Bengt. Several of these bands, sometimes overlapping in membership and often involving drummer Christer “Chrille” Lindholm, appeared alongside Mob 47 on the Stockholm’s Mangel compilation in 1985. The wider circle also included Per, the vocalist from Swedish band Bruce Banner, who is noted for singing in a number of these related groups.

Releases and Reissues

The band’s recorded output has been collected and reissued in different forms over the years. In 2003, Speedstate Records in Japan released an official two-CD discography. Later, a larger compilation collected recordings from the band’s 1983–1986 era, presenting that early material as one concentrated document of their initial run.

Return to Playing Live

After a long gap, Mob 47 began rehearsing again in 2005. They returned to the stage with a Stockholm show at Debaser on May 25, 2006, marking their first official gig in roughly two decades. Not long after, they expanded their live reach beyond Sweden, playing shows in England in September 2007, with dates in London, Sheffield, and Bradford. Later in 2007, Jögge (also known as Jugga) left the band, and Mob 47 continued again as a three-piece.
