Channel 3
Channel 3 is an energetic punk rock outfit from Cerritos, California, that emerged in the early 1980s and has evolved through various stylistic phases over the years.
History
Channel 3 was formed in 1980 by Mike Magrann (vocals, guitar), Kimm Gardner (guitar), Larry Kelly (bass), and Mike Burton (drums) in the suburban community of Cerritos, California. Their first release was a self-titled EP on Posh Boy Records in 1981, which featured the track “Manzanar”; a song that received significant airplay from UK disc jockey John Peel.
In 1982, Jack DeBaun joined the band as the new drummer, and their release Fear of Life was reissued in the UK as I’ve Got A Gun with a modified track listing. Their subsequent release, After The Lights Go Out, did not capture the same attention as their earlier single. In 1984, Jay Lansford, formerly of The Simpletones, Stepmothers, and The Wigglers, joined the group. His role expanded as he co-wrote original material with Mike Magrann, contributing to the evolution of their sound on the 1985 album Last Time I Drank… for Enigma Records.
