Chaos Uk

A dynamic English punk band from Portishead

Chaos UK is an English punk rock band from Portishead near Bristol, known for their fast, aggressive style within the anarcho-punk scene.

History

Formed in 1979, Chaos UK emerged from the anarcho-punk movement in the UK. The original lineup included Simon Greenham (vocals), Andy Farrier (guitar), and Adrian Rice (bass, later known as Chaos or Kaos) who eventually joined by Richard Potts (drums, also known as Potts). Their debut LP, released on Riot City Records in 1983, was hailed by their label in the short-lived “Punk Lives” magazine as the “fastest, noisiest LP in the cosmos.” Vocal duties on that record were handled by bassist Chaos.

By the mid-1980s the band underwent significant lineup changes, with Chaos remaining as the sole original member. New members, including Mower on vocals, Gabba on guitar (formerly of Nottingham’s The Seats of Piss), and Chuck on drums, joined the group. Throughout the rest of the 1980s, Chaos UK became a central force in the UK hardcore scene, playing hundreds of shows worldwide in countries such as Japan, the United States, Mexico, and across Europe. During their international tours, they often performed with a stand-in drummer; Blackmore of Bristol punk band Lunatic Fringe; when necessary.

Mower eventually left the band and Gabba later pursued a new project called FUK, marking further shifts in the band’s dynamic. Despite these changes, Chaos UK maintained a vigorous touring schedule and a robust presence on the UK Indie Chart.
