Diemonsterdie
Diemonsterdie was an American horror punk band from Salt Lake City, originally formed in 1995 under the name Casa Diablo. Their name came from the 1965 Boris Karloff film Die, Monster, Die!, itself loosely based on H. P. Lovecraft’s story “The Colour Out of Space.” Over time, the band was also referred to as DMD.
History
The group began in 1995 as Casa Diablo, founded by Huey “Zero Delorean” Diablo and drummer Shane “Meatwhistle” Diablo. Casa Diablo released two albums before splitting in 2000. That same year, Delorean and Meatwhistle revived the project as Diemonsterdie. Counting both eras, they lasted more than 17 years, producing eight studio albums, a split 7-inch vinyl with Germany’s Crimson Ghosts, and a live album. Their work was reviewed internationally, with recognition in Rue Morgue Magazine and Fear Net, which gave their 2010 record Fall to Your Knees a strong review.
Tours and Performances
Throughout their career, Diemonsterdie performed alongside horror and shock rock staples such as 45 Grave, The Misfits, GWAR, Type O Negative, Celtic Frost, and Dr. Chud’s X-Ward. Despite developing a global fan base, they never signed with a major label. Their stage presence and consistent touring cemented their reputation within the horror punk community.
Doctor Cyclops Records
In 2003, the band founded their own independent label, Doctor Cyclops Records. The label not only supported Diemonsterdie but also distributed music for other horror punk acts like the Crimson Ghosts, Left For Dead, The Dead Next Door, Others, and The Nightshift. Later, Doctor Cyclops Digital began distributing for newer bands, including Jamey Rottencorpse and the Rising Dead.
Revival and Crowdfunding
After slowing down following Fall to Your Knees, the band resurfaced in 2012. That year, they successfully crowdfunded over $6,000 to release October 21st, 1976, a collection of 13 previously unreleased tracks. The record marked 13 years since Casa Diablo’s transformation into Diemonsterdie. The band also reintroduced their free fan club, the Zealots of the Bloody Circle, with fan Steven Godfrey elected as president.
Passing of Zero Delorean
On March 30, 2022, frontman Zero Delorean passed away while battling an undisclosed illness. His death marked the end of the band’s activity, closing a chapter in American horror punk history.
