Dogwood
Dogwood is a punk rock band from Escondido, California, founded in 1993. Their music has often been compared to The Offspring, while citing Bad Religion, NOFX, and Lagwagon as major influences.
History
In 1993, Josh Kemble formed the band Half-Off with Jayce Molina on guitar, Josh Hagquist on bass, and Billy Nichols on drums. After a few shows, they adopted the name Dogwood, inspired by the legend of the dogwood cross. By 1996, they had signed with Rescue Records, home to bands like P.O.D. and No Innocent Victim, releasing Good Ol’ Daze and Through Thick & Thin.
After parting with Rescue, Dogwood self-released a 1998 eponymous album, later reissued as This Is Not a New Album on Facedown Records. In 1999, they joined Tooth & Nail Records, releasing a string of albums including More Than Conquerors, Building a Better Me, Matt Aragon, and Seismic. A greatest hits collection, Reverse, Then Forward Again, followed in 2004.
The band went inactive after October 2011. In 2015, Josh Kemble clarified they never officially broke up. A reunion came in late 2016, with shows alongside MxPx and Five Iron Frenzy in early 2017. Later that year, they teased a new track, “Titles,” for an Indie Vision Music sampler.
