Infa Riot

North London punk band Infa Riot formed in 1980

Infa Riot are an English punk band formed in 1980 in Wood Green, North London.

The group started with vocalist Lee Wilson and guitarist Barry D’Amery. The name Infa Riot is short for “In for a Riot.”

First Shows and Early Attention

The band’s first gig was as support for Angelic Upstarts at the Lordship Pub in Wood Green, a venue that later became a betting shop.

One of their early shows, their fourth gig, was reviewed in Sounds magazine by Thomas “Mensi” Mensforth of Angelic Upstarts.

Compilations, Singles, and Chart Movement

Two tracks appeared on the Strength Through Oi! compilation in May 1981. Later in 1981, the song “Each Dawn I Die” appeared on the Carry On Oi compilation.

Their first single, “Kids of the ’80’s,” was released in September 1981 and reached number 2 on the UK Indie Chart in February 1982.

The second single, “The Winner,” followed in May 1982. Their debut album, Still Out of Order, arrived in August 1982 and spent four weeks on the UK Albums Chart, reaching number 42.

The Infas Name and Later Activity

In 1984 the band switched names to The Infas and released their second album, Sound & Fury.

The Infas played their last gig in November 1985. That performance was recorded and later released in 1988 as part of Link Records’ Live and Loud!! series.

The band reformed in 2011. In 2018, they played in Tel Aviv.
