Josephine Collective is an emo pop band from Johnson County, Kansas, that embarked on a unique musical journey.

History

Formation and Early Years

Initially known as Josephine and later Josephine Love Letter, the band eventually settled on the name Josephine Collective in 2006. Their introduction to the mainstream came through Warner Bros. Records, courtesy of John Feldmann, who discovered their music on Myspace. Invited to open for Feldmann’s band, Goldfinger, the collaboration led to the production of their first EP, Living EP, in 2007.

Warner Bros. Records Deal and Debut Album

Impressed by their sound, Josephine Collective signed with Warner Bros. Records. John Feldmann, now their producer, guided them through the creation of their debut full-length album, We Are the Air, recorded in Los Angeles, CA. Released for digital download on June 24, 2008, the album showcased their emo pop prowess. The band hit the road, touring alongside Warner Bros. Records labelmates The Used in 2007, and sharing stages with Story of the Year and Madina Lake in 2008. Notable performances included appearances at the 2008 Bamboozle Left Festival in California and the 2008 Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey.

Transformations and Challenges

By mid-2008, Josephine Collective underwent significant changes. Lili Redwine, the keyboard player, departed to pursue a solo career under the alias “Fire For Effect,” contributing to the emergence of the Sea Punk movement. The departure reduced the band to six members, and in October, they parted ways with Warner Bros. Records, citing dissatisfaction with promotion and album release issues. Subsequently, Colby Logback (Bass) and Jared Bond (Drums) exited the band, leaving four remaining members.

Alex Sandate (Vocals) assumed drumming duties, and Dillon Devoe (Vocals) took on bass responsibilities. Despite these challenges, the band continued to evolve.

Farewell Concerts and Reunion

Josephine Collective’s final concert took place on May 23, 2009, at Kansas City’s Beaumont Club. During this performance, Dillon Devoe and Alex Sandate announced their decision to move on to other projects. However, in a “last-hurrah” reunion show on January 23, 2010, at the Beaumont Club in Kansas City, the band bid a final farewell.
