Knuckle Puck

Knuckle Puck formed near Chicago in 2010

Knuckle Puck is an American rock band formed in 2010 in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, and across a steady run of EPs and full length releases they moved from early covers to original material and long touring cycles that eventually led to albums on Rise Records and later Pure Noise Records.

How the name came together

The band’s name is tied to the “knucklepuck” shot in ice hockey, popularized by the 1994 film D2: The Mighty Ducks. The bio also notes that the name came from a Stick to Your Guns t shirt that read “Knuckle Puck Crew.”

From covers to early EPs

Knuckle Puck began by playing cover songs in fall 2010 in the Chicago area. The early lineup included vocalist Joe Taylor, lead guitarist Kevin Maida, and drummer John Siorek. In April 2011, the band began writing original songs after adding rhythm guitarist Nick Casasanto, and friends filled in on bass.

The band played its first show in July 2011. In October 2011 they released a self titled EP, followed by the Acoustics EP in March 2012 and the Don’t Come Home EP in October 2012. In August 2013, they self released The Weight That You Buried.

Neck Deep split, touring, and a new bassist

In February 2014, Bad Timing and Hopeless released a split EP featuring two songs each from Knuckle Puck and Neck Deep. The two bands toured together with Light Years from late February to early April, and Knuckle Puck also played the South by So What?! festival on March 16.

In spring 2014, bassist Ryan Rumchaks joined the band. Between May and June, Knuckle Puck supported Man Overboard on The Heart Attack Tour with Transit and Forever Came Calling.
