Superman Is Dead, sometimes abbreviated as S.I.D, is a punk rock band originating from Bali, formed in Kuta. The trio consists of Bobby Kool (lead vocals, guitar), Eka Rock (bass and backing vocals), and Jerinx (drums).

The Name Superman Is Dead

The name ‘Superman Is Dead’ evolved from Stone Temple Pilot’s “Superman Silvergun” and was changed to its current form because the band collectively agreed that nobody is perfect.

Formation and Influences

S.I.D. was established in 1995, fueled by their shared love for Green Day and NOFX. Their musical influences expanded to the punk ‘n roll genre, drawing inspiration from bands like Supersuckers, Living End, and Social Distortion.

Warped Tour 2009

In June and July 2009, Superman Is Dead embarked on an American tour, including 16 concerts in 16 cities. Eleven shows were part of the ‘Vans Warped Tour,’ with the final five gigs named ‘From Bali With Rock.’

Controversy

Jerinx, the drummer, has been an outspoken critic of land reclamation in Benoa Bay, Bali, since 2014. In 2018, he urged President Joko Widodo to address the issue. Additionally, Jerinx criticized dangdut singer Via Vallen in 2018 for covering SID’s song “Sunset di Tanah Anarki” without permission, leading to a public exchange.
