Antillectual
Antillectual is a Dutch punk and melodic hardcore band formed in 2000 in Nijmegen. Known for their politically motivated lyrics, the band writes primarily in English and has gained international recognition. Their songs tackle important social issues, including anti-fascism, environmental concerns, and criticisms of societal structures. Over the years, they have toured extensively across North America, Europe, and beyond, sharing stages with influential punk and hardcore acts such as Rise Against, Propagandhi, NOFX, and Bad Religion.
Despite lineup changes, Antillectual continues to create and perform music with a focus on activism and melody. Their sound blends punk’s fast-paced energy with more melodic elements, offering both hard-hitting tunes and thought-provoking lyrics.
History
Antillectual started as a four-piece punk band in 2000 but quickly became a trio after early lineup changes. After their first full-length release, Silencing Civilization (2005), they toured extensively, solidifying their place in the European punk scene. Their second album, Testimony (2008), was distributed through various independent labels worldwide, further increasing their reach. Over the years, they continued to release music and tour, despite more lineup changes.
In 2016, they released ENGAGE!, their most critically acclaimed work, and in 2023, after a seven-year hiatus from full-length releases, the band returned with the album TOGETHER. The band’s consistent touring and ability to collaborate with notable punk artists have made them a fixture in the international punk community.
