Inquisition
Inquisition were an American punk band from Richmond, Virginia, active through the mid 1990s with roots that started while some members were still in high school.
They became a steady presence in the city’s punk circuit, and several members later went on to play in or start bands including Strike Anywhere, River City High, and Ann Beretta.
How the Band Got Started
Inquisition formed in 1991. Early on, the lineup included bassist Leer Baker.
Lineup Shifts and Active Years
In 1992, Leer Baker left the band and Rob Huddleston stepped in on bass. Huddleston also handled vocals during his time in the group.
Records and Releases
The band recorded the full-length Broken Songs and also appeared on various 7 inch releases and compilations.
Their best known recording, Revolution, I Think It’s Called Inspiration, came out in early 1996 on Pop A Wheelie Records and was later reissued in October 2005 on A-F Records. A review from Exclaim! noted that the reissue made a strong case for fresh attention.
Final Shows or Later Activity
Inquisition played their final show of the original run on September 8, 1996, at the Biograph Theatre in Richmond with AFI and The Pee Tanks.
The band returned for two reunion shows in Richmond on May 18 and May 19, 2007.
A live CD and DVD documenting the reunion performances was released on March 18, 2008, via No Idea Records.
Since the reunion, Thomas Barnett and other members have also played acoustic Inquisition sets for small audiences, including a Richmond show on September 21, 2010 with Kevin Seconds.
