Black Lungs
Black Lungs is a Canadian punk rock band formed by Wade MacNeil, known for his work with Alexisonfire and Gallows. Drawing inspiration from his earlier band Plan 9, MacNeil envisioned Black Lungs as a return to raw punk roots. The project initially came together with percussionist Jordan Hastings, keyboardists Sammi Bogdanski, and bassist George Pettit. Their sound mixes energetic punk with a gritty edge, reflecting MacNeil’s passion for the genre.
History
The band released its debut studio album, Send Flowers, in May 2008 on Dine Alone Records, featuring Ian Romano on drums. After the release, Black Lungs toured to support the album with Liam Cormier stepping in on drums. Over time, the lineup shifted, with former members such as Pat Pengelly contributing drums at various points.
In 2008, Black Lungs put out a limited edition 7-inch vinyl with two tracks, followed by another two-song 7-inch titled Valley of the Dolls in 2010 through Deranged Records. On March 8, 2011, Wade MacNeil announced a split EP with fellow Canadians, Cancer Bats. Around this time, the band began recording their second album with producer Nick Blagona. The resulting album, Pagan Holiday, was recorded but shelved for over four years before being released for free online on Halloween 2015.
