Bus Station Loonies are a British cabaret punk band from Plymouth, England, known for their eclectic mix of punk energy and theatrical performances. With a history spanning over two decades and numerous lineup changes, they have built a reputation for high-intensity live shows and unique renditions of classic tracks.

History

Formation and Early Tours

Formed in the mid-1990s, the Bus Station Loonies emerged as a cross between whimsical acts like Splodgenessabounds and the politically charged Crass. Early in their career, their UK tour in 1996 drew attention for an energetic performance style and quirky stage presence, once being billed as “a vicious headbutt between Johnny Moped and Jello Biafra”.

World Record and Media Recognition

The band set a world record in 2001 for performing 25 different gigs in 12 hours, a feat that earned them a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Their inventive approach to music was highlighted by music journalist Mick Mercer and they were featured in documentaries such as Channel 4’s Punx Picnic.

Recent Activities and Releases

In Autumn 2010, the band completed recording their second full-length album, Midget Gems, released on their own Ruptured Ambitions label. Their latest release, More Bullshit (2022), pays tribute to bands from the Crass Records Bullshit Detector series. Frontman Chris Wheelie also pursues solo projects and collaborates with various acts.
