Civ
CIV is an American punk rock band from New York City, named after its vocalist Anthony Civarelli. Three of its members (Civarelli, Siegler, and Smilios) were also in Gorilla Biscuits, with Siegler later playing in Youth of Today and Judge.
History
After Gorilla Biscuits broke up, Civarelli opened a tattoo studio on Long Island. Later, after Quicksand signed to a major label, Schreifels reunited a late version of his former band, writing and producing the record Set Your Goals. Before recording their second full-length album, Thirteen Day Getaway, Smilios was replaced by Cache Tolman. CIV disbanded in 2000 but reunited for one-off shows in New York’s Black N Blue Bowl (2008), Belgium’s Groezrock Festival (2011), and at Webster Hall in New York City (2012). Announced in 2024, they reunited once more to support Shelter on a four-night tour of the Northeast and played a one-off show in The Netherlands in November 2024.
Legacy
CIV is best known for the single “Can’t Wait One Minute More,” which was featured on Beavis and Butt-head and used in a Nissan commercial in 2005. Other songs like “All Twisted,” “Haven’t Been Myself in a While,” and “Something Special” appeared on the TV show What’s New, Scooby-Doo? Their early track “Et Tu Brute?” is on the film Escape from L.A., and “So Far, So Good…So What” is featured on the Mega Man soundtrack. Additionally, “It’s Not Your Fault” and “Living Life” can be heard in Road Rash 3D. The San Francisco Bay-area band Set Your Goals took its name from CIV’s debut album.
