Cobra Skulls

American punk rock band Cobra Skulls from Reno

Cobra Skulls are an American punk rock band originally from Reno, Nevada, later based in the San Francisco Bay Area. They have released three studio albums, five EPs, and three 7″ splits.

History

Cobra Skulls were formed in Reno in 2005 by Devin Peralta (bass, vocals), Charlie Parker (guitar), and Chad Cleveland (drums). They released the EP Draw Muhammad in 2006, which caught the attention of Red Scare Industries. The label signed the band and released their debut album Sitting Army in 2007, followed by a 7″ titled Never Be a Machine in 2008. To promote Sitting Army, the band toured with Against Me!, Mad Caddies, and The Loved Ones. During that tour, they added a second guitarist, Adam Beck.

In August 2008, Cobra Skulls announced they had parted ways with guitarist Charlie Parker. Their second album, American Rubicon, was released in 2009, and the band toured on the Old Skars and Upstarts Tour with Anti-Nowhere League and Duane Peters, followed by a west coast tour opening for The Lawrence Arms and Teenage Bottlerocket. In March 2010, the band signed with Fat Wreck Chords. Around that time, drummer Chad Cleveland left and was replaced by Luke Swarm.

On August 3, 2010, the band announced they were recording a new five-song EP with Fat Mike, which was released as Bringing The War Home in 2011. A cover of Bad Religion’s “Give You Nothing” from the EP was featured on a 2010 tribute album. In 2012, guitarist Adam Beck was replaced by former Nothington bassist Tony Teixeira, and the band released the Eagle Eyes 7-inch along with a video for its title track. Cobra Skulls announced their breakup in December 2013 after playing final shows opening for Good Riddance, though they later reformed in 2018 to play Punk Rock Bowling and have been playing periodically since.

After Cobra Skulls, Devin Peralta, Tony Teixeira, and Luke Swarm formed a new band, Boys on the Wall, releasing their debut album on June 21, 2016.

Musical Style

Fronted by Devin Peralta, whose bilingual vocals feature both English and Spanish (as heard on tracks like “¡Hasta Los Cobra Skulls Siempre!” and “Use Your Cobra Skulls”), the band infuses traditional punk rock with energetic and aggressive elements. Their sound is characterized by fast-paced riffs and catchy choruses, with some songs incorporating Spanish lyrics to reflect Peralta’s Argentinian heritage.
