Corrupted Ideals

Corrupted Ideals is a punk rock band from Long Beach, California, formed in 1988. The band’s early lineup featured Paul Kelly on vocals and Mike Nigro on guitar, who were responsible for the majority of the band’s material. Mike composed most of the music, while Paul wrote the lyrics. Their debut album, Join the Resistance, released in 1991, showcased this early collaboration.

In the years that followed, Corrupted Ideals went through several lineup changes. The band’s second album, Anti-Generation (1993), saw the addition of Pete “Action Man” Archer on bass and Anthony Guarino on drums. Nicky Garratt also played guitar on parts of the album, including their cover of the UK Subs’ song “Telephone Numbers.”

Pete and Anthony had previously played together in the mid-1980s punk band Violent Outrage, with whom Corrupted Ideals regularly shared the stage. Just before a Western U.S. tour, there was another change in the lineup: Pete Archer moved to bass in the Stitches (who were opening for Corrupted Ideals), and Anthony switched to bass as well. This lineup shift allowed the band to recruit celebrated punk rock drummer Sean Antillon, known for his work with the Weirdos, the Gears, the Stains, and the Skulls.

Currently, Corrupted Ideals’ lineup includes Steve Swailes of the Hitchhikers on guitar, Paul Kelly on vocals, Anthony Guarino on bass, and Sean Antillon on drums.

After the band’s breakup in 1995, Paul Kelly and Sean Antillon formed the Neurotones, a rockabilly/psychobilly band that reflected a different musical direction with a more stripped-down rock style.
