Burn
Burn is an American hardcore punk band that formed in 1989, known for its energetic sound and evolving lineup over the decades.
History
Early Years and Initial Recordings
Burn released its debut self-titled EP on Revelation Records in 1990, marking their entry into the hardcore scene. By 1992, the band experienced a significant shift as vocalist Chaka Malik left to form Orange 9mm, while other members joined projects like Quicksand and Seaweed. Despite these changes, Burn never officially disbanded, allowing for sporadic reunions and live performances over the years.
Reformation and New Lineup
In the early 2000s, Burn restarted with founding members Malik and Gavin Van Vlack, joined by guitarist Vic DiCara and bassist Manny Carrero. The band continued to explore its sound, releasing the Cleanse EP in 2001 on Equal Vision Records and unveiling previously unreleased material from 1992 with Last Great Sea in 2002 through Revelation Records.
Recent Activity and Full-Length Release
April 2016 saw the announcement of their upcoming release From the Ashes. With Malik and Van Vlack at the helm, and new members Tyler Krupsky on bass and Abbas Muhammad on drums, Burn released its first full-length album, Do or Die, on September 8, 2017, via Deathwish Inc. The album was produced by Kurt Ballou and marked a milestone in the band’s long career.
