The Trashwomen were an all-female American garage punk and surf punk trio hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, made waves with their raw and sleazy rock & roll sound. Signed to Estrus Records, the band, consisting of Tina Lucchesi (drums), Dannielle Pimm (bass), and Elka Zolot (guitar), left an indelible mark on the San Francisco garage rock scene.

History

Formed in 1991 by Tina Lucchesi and Dannielle Pimm, along with former Bitch Fight & Eight Ball Scratch guitarist, Elka Zolot, the band initially came together for a one-off show covering songs by The Trashmen. Despite Zolot’s guitar skills, Lucchesi and Pimm spent four weeks learning their instruments before their debut performance. The Trashwomen quickly gained a following in the San Francisco garage rock scene.

The band’s debut album, Spend the Night With the Trashwomen, released in 1993 on Estrus, was described by Allmusic as “a straight-up raw release of sleazy rock & roll.” Subsequent releases included a live album in 1994 and a third album in 1995, titled Trashwomen Vs. Deep Space, both released on the German label Pin Up Records. The band split in 1997 after a Japanese tour but reunited in 2007 for a performance, continuing until 2008. They proudly referred to themselves as “the Queens of Tease Rock.”

The Wongs paid tribute to The Trashwomen in their song “Jerkin’ It to the Trashwomen.”
